Upper Half or Lower Half?

I was out for a while and not able to blog... I missed a lot... I missed commenting on the Alcano world pool win, and yes, I missed commenting on Pacman's spectacular knockout of El Terrible.

Anyway, I noted that today's inquirer report said that half of Filipinos distrust PGMA. My question is, the upper half or lower half?

Funny?

Now this one is funnier...

The same report said that

On the issue of national economic recovery, the survey showed 25 percent approved, 39 disapproved and 36 undecided ...

Hmmm, I wonder what the question was for this one... Did they ask: Do you approve of the economic recovery? And for this question, only 25% approved? I wonder why would anyone disapprove of an economic recovery!?

Now this is the real news: 39% disapproved of the economic recovery while 36% are unsure!!! So if the economy fell, would these people have approved?

Haha...

This just shows that surveys, even by the most credible of groups, are nonsense unless we know what questions are asked and unless we know who asked and why. So, is the Inquirer doing us good by bannering this kind of survey report without the details? Or is someone doing somebody's press release?

More on Billboards: a Ban or Boycott?

Like me, there are some bloggers that do not see any benefit we can get from billboards.

One of them, Touched by an Angel is suffocated by it and is asking for its total ban. She even posted pics of fallen billboards along EDSA. She also identified the top 10 billboard advertisers in Metro Manila as cited by Sen. Mirriam Defensor Santiago. By citing these advertisers, is she suggesting a boycott?

I am suggesting a total ban on billboards. I am sure though, that our politicians who uses them would not want its ban. Nobody is indeed looking our for the ordinary citizen's welfare.

So, I am toying about the idea of boycotting the products advertised on the billboards. But how can you boycott say any of the cellular phone line providers who all (Smart, Globe, Sun) uses billboards to advertise? How can you boycott a company such as PLDT which is the only company that can provide telephone connection in our area? Perhaps we can boycott Bench or Kamiseta or Penshoppe, all of which I do not use in the first place?

Long ago, I suggested a boycott on Kris Aquino advertised products. Will it work? I do not know. But are we powerless against businesses (or even goverment officials) that do not give a damn on our safety and wellbeing?

We must at least do something about it, and a boycott seems something worthy of consideration.
