Election Spin #3: This is about GO versus TU

When you go by our mass media, it is as if that this coming senatorial election is all about the Opposition versus the Administration. Many say that this is the test for President Arroyo, whether she is still accepted by the people or not. A win by the administration means President Arroyo is forgiven. A win by the opposition means that PGMA will have a hell of a time trying to stay in power for the rest of her term.

This train of thought is pure spin perpetuated by both sides. The truth is that both the Genuine Opposition and Team Unity are one and the same. How can they differ, nay be at different poles from each other, when we know that their interests are the same? We know that both party’s agenda is to get themselves in power by whatever means – i.e. cheating. We know that both GO and TU use the usual “para sa masa” rhetoric but would not present any doable plans to helping the people. We know that both party would never propose electoral reforms nor real honest to goodness anti-graft policies. We know that both would never tell the truth for they are all in it together.

GO and TU are one and the same party. It is the party of traditional politicians, those without a hint as to what the people really need and those who knew but do not really care. They are so noisy without making sense. They throw dirt at each other but won’t stand up to substantiate whatever dirt they throw for that would mean exposing their own. A simple review of both rosters will amaze everyone how intertwined and mixed they really are. To them, there are no permanent friends nor enemies, only permanent personal interests.

We do not have two senatorial coalitions. What we actually have are twenty-four individual interests occupying our mediascape, one coalition that would surely lead us all into one direction: disaster. Voting for any one of them do not matter, for later they will all either be administration or opposition pets, depending on “how much” they’ll get.

So what is this election really about? It is about them versus us. It is about these few corrupt people including the media who control our future versus all of us who try to make ends meet in spite of the hardships they cause. It is about time we choose wisely, even if our votes won’t be counted. We can choose to boycott the coming elections or choose the only real alternative: the Ang Kapatiran. I chose the latter because I wanted to do something in the hope that I will be heard. We may not be heard at all, not even noticed. But we just have to do something!
